Dog poisoning cases are sadly becoming more common, and every second counts. Knowing the symptoms early and getting your dog to a veterinarian immediately can save their life.
Common Symptoms of Poisoning in Dogs
Signs may appear suddenly and can include :
Excessive drooling or foaming at the mouth
Vomiting or diarrhea
Difficulty breathing
Tremors or seizures
Weakness or collapse
Unusual aggression, fear, or confusion
Bleeding from the nose or mouth
Pale gums
Loss of coordination or stumbling
Crying, restlessness, or severe pain
Refusing food or water
Different poisons affect dogs differently, and symptoms can worsen very quickly.

What To Do While Rushing To The Vet
⚠️ Poisoning is a medical emergency. Your dog still needs urgent veterinary treatment.
While on your way to the vet, you can :
Keep your dog calm and warm
Prevent them from walking if they are weak or disorientated
Remove any poison or bait from their mouth if safe to do so
Take a sample or photo of the suspected poison with you
If possible, note the time the poisoning may have happened
Important :
Do NOT force-feed milk, oil, salt water, or raw eggs
Do NOT give human medication unless instructed by a veterinarian
Do NOT try to induce vomiting unless a vet specifically tells you to
Some poisons cause more damage when vomiting is induced.
Prevention Tips
Never leave food scraps or poison where pets can reach them
Keep rat poison, pesticides, and chemicals locked away
Be alert for suspicious food or meat thrown into yards
Ensure your pets are safely secured at night
If you suspect poisoning, contact your nearest veterinarian immediately. Acting quickly gives your dog the best possible chance of survival.
